Job Summary:
The Planner – QLS is the primary customer contact for daily logistics and brokerage needs. The planner negotiates spot rates with partner carriers, logs daily customer activity and works in conjunction with National Account Sales to investigate and solicit logistic opportunities. The planner investigates logistic service errors using the NCR process and will have a high level of customer interaction.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Build relationships with both carriers and customers to become a key aspect of their operation
- Receive requests and perform daily customer logistic services, including order entry and load tracking
- Review daily shipment plans to ensure that awarded freight is assigned based on customer’s requirements, needs, and expectations
- Develop and manage a network of outside carriers to move freight in the most profitable manner
- Negotiate rates with carriers to meet margin requirements and ensure maximum profitability
- Build freight volume from existing customers, both internal (terminals) and external
- Solicit new sales by developing leads and cold calling potential customers
- Manages customer system data, including files, service reports, rate quotations, and all correspondence
- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Minimum 2 Years related work experience in a logistics planning role
- Prior Freight Brokerage experience
- Advanced level experience with MS Word and Excel
- Prior experience with TMW Software, a plus
- Google Apps knowledge, a plus
- A high degree of initiative, independent execution, and integrity
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent presentation and negotiation abilities
- Skilled at evaluating options and generating solutions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must possess exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position, and days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Weekend/Holiday on-call rotation.
